SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION AT THE Q

The first step in the preparation process for the Sacraments of Initiation for children are parent meetings.  Discussed at these meetings are the parents’ role as primary educators of their children and the specifics pertaining to the Sacrament itself here at Queen of Heaven.

FIRST RECONCILIATION and FIRST COMMUNION/ EUCHARIST

Specific information regarding First Reconciliation usually in the 2nd grade and First Communion / Eucharist usually in the 3rd grade will be sent via email to QH parishioners, parents/guardians who are registered in the parish or attend Queen of Heaven School or parish faith formation sessions.  Parents need to complete the registration materials and send back to the formation office.  Parent meetings are held in October/November for Queen of Heaven Parish children.

CONFIRMATION PREPARATION PROCESS

Specific information regarding the Confirmation preparation process will be sent via email to registered QofH parishioners, parents/guardians and potential Confirmation candidates via email. Parent meetings are usually held in late September or early October.

Currently, our Confirmation preparation process is open to students in grade 11, and to students in grade 12 who have not been confirmed, they are most welcome to join our preparation process. Individuals that are college age and beyond should contact the rectory for information on the adult OCIA Confirmation process. Sessions are held from October through February. The Confirmation date varies but is usually during the Easter Season. We don’t find out the date from the Chancery until mid-Winter. There is a retreat and service component to the process.  We discuss all of this and more at the parent/candidate meeting that is held in September.  It is extremely important that all parties are aware of what to expect during this process.

PRIMARY SACRAMENT PREPARATION PROCESS

Children are prepared for these sacraments in the home by their parents/guardians, with assistance from their parish Faith Formation Department. Sacramental preparation is not part of school curriculum. It is a function of the PARISH, not of the school. If you are looking for information on the primary sacraments and you have children attending QH school and belong to a different parish, please contact the Faith Formation Department at the parish you are registered at, if you have not heard from them already. Information regarding this is included in the parent packet that is distributed at the QH school parent orientation each year.

THE ORDEr OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS
